Happy Birthday, America!

One of the many reasons why I love Bend so much is because the town and its people go all out for America's Birthday! There are so many activities planned for July 4th, it's impossible to get to them all.

I started the morning of the 4th riding around town and handing out hats for Boneyard Brewery at the Pet Parade.

Since I was on a bike, I didn't take any pictures, but the Pet Parade is absolutely hilarious. People dress up their animals with red, white, and blue flare. And since it's Bend, the parade doesn't just include dogs and cats but also chickens, cows, horses, goats, llamas and I'm sure a few others that I missed. It was awesome!

After the parade, we headed over to the Freedom Ride. This is where people (seems like everyone in town) ride their bikes around town singing 'I love America' songs. The ride is just a few miles long and ends in the park with a big ol' birthday party for America.

Such a great day! Happy Birthday, America!

  1. Thought #1: A place where people go around singing "I love America songs" is PERFECT for Polly.

Thought #2: Are you wearing a romper?????????????

  2. Hi Polly,

I work for the company that produces Mutual of Omaha’s aha moment campaign; check out www.mutualofomaha.com/aha to see what an aha moment is and the incredible stories we’ve filmed over the last several years. As I came across your website, I couldn’t help but think that you might have an aha moment to share.

For the 5th year, we’re taking our 34-foot Airstream mobile film studio on the road again for the 2014 Aha Moment Tour, visiting 20 cities across America to capture inspirational, life-changing aha moments from folks all over the country. We are headed to Bend, OR on August 14th and 15th and would love to invite you to share an aha moment, and how your life has changed since. It can be about your work, your family or other life experiences. You would just have to step into the Airstream studio for a few minutes and tell your story on film to our tour producer. Your video will then be posted to www.mutualofomaha.com/aha, where you will be able to share it with your friends and family via email, Facebook and Twitter!

On August 14th and 15th from 10am to 6pm, we will be parked at Downtown Bend, Mirror Pond Parking Lot, behind The Tower Theatre, at NW Riverside Blvd. and NW Broadway St., Bend, OR 97701. Here is a map link to the location: http://goo.gl/maps/6yGJT

We’d love to have you. Let me know as soon as possible and I can reserve your time slot.

    Many thanks!
