Day two of New York City brought us downtown to the 9/11 Memorial again.
This time we actually made it in.
It was a beautiful and respectful tribute to those who lost their lives on that terrible day.
It's hard to believe it been almost 12 years.
Next, we hailed cabs and headed uptown to the Track and Field Hall of Fame.
This was the one I had been most excited for since I was sure there would be a entire floor dedicated to my hero, Steve Prefontaine.
Unfortunately, to our surprise, it was closed for the holiday. Fortunately though, the front desk guy let us in free of charge, but only to see the first floor.
Of course the first thing I sought out was anything related to Pre and his greatness.
For those of you who don't know, Pre was the greatest American Distance Runner before his untimely death at the age of 24.
His rare combination of talent, discipline, perseverance, drive, and unmatched will to succeed continues to be a huge inspiration in my life.
If you're looking to be inspired rent the movie, Without Limits. If you're looking to be utterly amazed rent the documentary Fire on the Track: The Prefontaine Story. You won't regret it!
After the Track and Field Hall of Fame we stopped at the nearby restaurant, Coogan's, for dinner. Clearly the heat was getting to Sami and Tyler, they were acting a bit koooky!
But they're still the cutest kids ever, aren't they?!
Our last stop in NYC brought us to mom's favorite, good ol' Lady Liberty!
As we walked back to the subway, we stopped on Broadway for our little star to pose on the street where we will one day see her name in lights.
And on that day, I promise to be the first in line buying front row seats!
Thanks for a great time, New York! You certainly are a unique city!
And a little over 24 hours later Mt. Hood and all her beauty welcomed me back to Oregon.
